An auction house has partnered with Kochi Biennale Foundation to raise funds for the ongoing flood relief works in south India
In an attempt to raise funds for the ongoing flood relief works in south India, Art Rises for Kerala (ARK), state’s first live art auction will be held on January 18 at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. It will feature 42 works of modern and contemporary Indian art.
Auction house Saffronart, in partnership with the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF), is conducting the auction. The sale will have no Buyer’s Premium and will be led by an untitled canvas and resin work from 2018 by leading contemporary artist Anish Kapoor. His canvas in resin and pigment which measures 53 x 47 x 28 cm is estimated to be sold between Rs 1,35,00,000 and Rs 1,75,00,000. Other top artists who have donated works for the auction include Atul Dodiya, Anju Dodiya, G R Iranna, Gigi Scaria, Sudhir Patwardhan and Vivan Sundaram. It also features two rare drawings by Amrita Sher-Gil.
Saffronart ceo Dinesh Vazirani said, “Our fundraiser auction in August 2018 raised 36 lakhs for the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to aid rebuilding efforts following the devastating floods, and we are counting on the generous support of art collectors across the world once again. Through this auction, we reiterate our solidarity with the resilient people of this beautiful state.”
The live auction is being preceded by viewings at Bastion Bungalow in Fort Kochi from January 5 to 17.
