The IFW finale saw four designers put together free-flowing ideas

Though rooted in ancient times, the idea of a tribe has been finding an echo in recent times. Models essayed this concept walking down the levelled-up digital runway designed especially for the grand finale of FDCI’s Lotus Make-up India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020.

Designers Anamika Khanna, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Wendell Rodricks and Manish Arora showcased their collections in line of ‘My Fashion, My Tribe’.

Khanna opened the show with her collection to a cheering crowd that included actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, wearing a white sari with a colourful cut-work border, paired with a multi-colour shrug. Her collection comprised contemporary clothing like dhoti drapes, dresses and skirts in various colours — black, red, yellow and white. She used digital prints, a lot of feathers and patchwork to give her designs a cool, relaxed and summery look.

The second line-up by Singh opened with a live contemporary dance by four dancers which emerged from each corner of the runway. His all-white designs had huge polka dots and stripes in neon yellow, green and pink. Relaxed silhouettes of dresses, pant suits, jackets and body suits  were accessorised with over-the-top headgears and chunky white shoes with neon polka dots.

Rodricks’ collection paid an ode to the island tribes and models sashayed on Wakanda, wearing free-falling silhouettes of skirts, capes, bralettes, skirts in mostly white and with a dash of sky blue, silver and grey. The highlight were eye-catching headgears. Models’ faces were painted white giving them a sea goddess look.

Known for his psychedelic colour palette, Arora showcased the last collection. He displayed his love for kitsch motifs with colourful shimmery dresses, jackets, skirts, gowns, blouses, skirts and trousers made the line-up. The ramp was set ablaze with quirky prints in multi colour, big bows on collars and waist of the outfits, accessories on the wrist, models with high pencil pony tails, exaggerated eyelashes and shiny high-heels with big bows. It ended on a high note with actor Kangana Ranaut taking to the ramp. The actor decided not to don any designer’s outfit as it was difficult to select one. “My stylist told me to go with something simple and here I am wearing a white shirt and black tulle skirt, accessorised with multiple silver kundan necklaces,” she said and added that fashion is a way of life for her. “To enhance yourself is not a favour that you do to the world. Today, fashion weeks have set such high standards that we have models from all walks of life — from acid attack survivors, transgenders to people who are not zero size. Fashion is for everyone,” the actor said.

Her minimalistic make-up and centre-parted hair neatly tied at the back complemented the perfect look.
