‘Like to work with ensemble cast’
Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar prefers ensemble cast in her projects and likes to work with realistic characters that have some sort of back stories.
“If you have an actor that comes into your film and is a part of that story, he should have some heft. It's not just information but there needs to be a story behind their stories. Otherwise, it becomes boring and dull,” said Zoya.
Her next is the Netflix project Ghost Stories, an ensemble of four short films directed by four directors. Apart from Zoya, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar are associated with the project.
‘People usually ask me about settling down in life. I don't understand how much should I achieve more to feel settled down. It's considered that women have to find someone to sort themselves out. I have been told often that ‘you will have to get married to find personal happiness’. But I am in a happy space as happiness cannot be decided by other people.’
