In order to provide convenience of booking of unreserved tickets through mobile phones, the UTS Mobile app was launched in November 2018. It was developed by the railways to facilitate passengers so that they don’t have to undergo the discomfort of reaching a ticket counter.
Northern Railways had launched several promotional drives to create awareness about the app. Help desks were set up at many prominent stations. TP Singh, general manager of the Northern Railways, expressed his satisfaction on the gaining popularity of the app. He said that in past several months, the passenger engagement on the app has gone up as 41.14 lakh. As the awareness about the app will increase though the promotional drives, ticketing will become more convenient, paperless and digital.
