Af mujahideen fighter turned president dies
Kabul: An Afghan mujahideen commander who fought the Soviets and rose to become the country’s first president after the Red Army retreated has died aged 93, his family said on Tuesday. Sibghatullah Mojaddedi, who commanded a mujahideen faction during the decade-long insurgency against the Soviet occupiers, passed away late on Monday.
US-led coalition hits mosque used by ISIS
Beirut: The US-led coalition says it has hit a mosque used by the Islamic State group as a command and control center in eastern Syria. The coalition said Tuesday it launched the strike in support of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, who are fighting to drive the extremists from their last tiny stronghold near the border with Iraq.
Bangladesh summons Pak envoy
