2 AMU students released from jail in anti-CAA case

Two accused of the ruckus on 15th December 2019 regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act in Aligarh Muslim University, got bail from the court. Two days before, former AMU student Sharjeel Usmani, one of the accused of ruckus, was released on wednesday after being granted bail from the sessions court. At the same time, the second accused, AMU student Farhan Zuberi has been granted bail two days before from the High Court.

His release is on hold because of incomplete formalities.

Both were identified as the main accused in this conspiracy. There is a wave of happiness among the student on their bail. On Wednesday, students and student leaders celebrated and called it a victory of their struggle. The bail petition of Farhan Zuberi, a student of Master of Social Work at Aligarh Muslim University, has been accepted by the High Court but his release was stuck in formalities. After completion of bail formalities in a total of 11 cases, he will be released from the jail on any working day. No action could be taken on Wednesday as it was a declared holiday in a court. On the other hand, accused of the 15th December ruckus in AMU Sharjeel Usmani was released from jail last night and currently, he is with his family. There was only one case against Sharjeel and has been granted bail from the sessional court. Student leader and an advocate in the AMU ruckus case Mr. Amir Minto confirmed the bail and release of Sharjeel. Meanwhile, Irfan Ghazi, an advocate of Farhan Zuberi and Dr. Kafeel Khan, said that Farhan Zuberi will be released soon. Sharjeel and Farhan were locked in Aligarh jail.

AMU administration vigilant on the changed situation after the court's decisions Sharjeel was arrested in July by ATS from Azamgarh

Father of Sharjeel Usmani, Professor Tariq Usmani is a professor in the Geology department of Aligarh Muslim University. Sharjeel was arrested and produced in court by ATS on 10th July from his uncle’s house and sent to jail. In December 2019, Sharjeel came into the limelight after posting a picture of former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani related to Babri Masjid on social media. It is said that he was also in contact with the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University, who are protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Apart from an attempt to murder, four other cases have been registered against Sharjeel. All cases are registered under sections 147, 148, 149, 153, 153A, 188, 307, 322, 353, 506, 67 IT Act.

 

Farhan Zuberi was arrested along with Raveesh Ali:

 Farhan Zuberi son of Amjad Ali Khan Zuberi, originally from Mohalla Chowk in Islamnagar city of Badaun, currently resides at Al Karim Plaza in Zakaria Market on Medical Road, Civil Line police station. Farhan Zuberi is a student of Master of Social Work and is accused in the involvement of ruckus that took place on 15th December 2019 at AMU. 11 cases have been registered against him including stone pelting, murderous attack, damage of public property, obstructing government work, provoking speeches to disturb communal harmony and burning mannequin of leaders. A final report has been submitted in one of these cases and charge sheet for the other four also submitted while other lawsuits still under consideration. On 20th March 2020, Farhan Zuberi was arrested with one more student Raveesh Ali Khan. Later, Raveesh Ali Khan was released but Farhan was sent to jail. Charges against him are under sections 188, 341, 153A, UP Special Power Act 147, 342, 427, 336, 352, 353, 332, 504, Criminal Law Amendment Act 148, 149, 336, 307, 506, 7 criminal act.

The administration of AMU has become alert after the release of Dr. Kafeel and the bail of Sharjeel and Farhan from the court. AMU Proctor Professor Wasim Ali said that it is good that justice is being done to the students, but at the same time, we are vigilant also so that external elements cannot enter the campus to create disturbances because AMU campus is completely empty of students at this time. External elements may come to the campus, which again raises doubt about their activity. Therefore, we are fully alert.
