9,060 new cases, 150 deaths in Maha

The total Covid 19-triggered deaths crossed 42,000-mark and infections inched closer to 16 lakh-mark in Maharashtra on Sunday, as 150 more people succumbed to the pandemic and a relatively low 9,060 people tested positive for Coronavirus in various parts of the state.

A day after it logged 250 deaths and 10,259 infected cases, there was a further drop in the fatalities and infections, as the number of deaths came down by 100 and the infected plummeted by 1,199 cases.

With 150 fresh deaths, the total number of deaths in the state mounted from 41,965 to 42,115.

The number of infections in a single day has gone down below 10000 mark  for the first time in three months. With 9,060 fresh infections, the total number of infections inched closer to the 16 lakh mark as the cases increased from from 15,86,321 to 5,95,381.

On a day when 11,204 people were discharged from various hospitals in the state, the number of people discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year went up to 13,69,810. The recovery rate in the state rose from 85.65 to 85.86 per cent. 

Of the 150 deaths reported on Sunday, Mumbai accounted for a maximum of 46 deaths, followed by 14 deaths in Nagpur.  

In the lower range, there were nine each in Thane, Pune and Satara, 6 each in Solapur and Kolhapur, 5 in Sangli, 4 each in Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Latur and Beed, 3 each in Raigad, Ahmednagar, Hingoli, Osmanabad, Nanded and Wardha, 2 each in Nashik and Jalna and one death each in Palghar, Ratnagiri, Parbhani, Akola, Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. In addition one person from outside the state died in Maharashtra.

With 46 deaths, the Covid-19 toll in Mumbai rose from 9,739 to 9,785 while the infected cases increased by 1,600 to trigger a jump in the total number of infected cases from 240,335 to 241,935.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate in the state stood at 2.64 per cent. The number of  “active cases” in the state dropped from 1,85,270 to 1,82,973.

Pune district, which continued to be the worst-affected city-district in Maharashtra, saw the total number of cases increase from 3,22,818 to 3,23,642 while the total number of deaths in Pune increased from 6493 to 6502.

Thane district remained in the third spot --after Pune and Mumbai – after the total number of infections from 2,11,606 to 2,12,765, while the pandemic toll  rose from 5197 to 5206.

Out of 81,39,466 samples sent to laboratories, 15,95,381 have tested positive (19.6 per cent) for COVID-19 until Sunday.

Currently, 24,12,921 people are in home quarantine while 23,384 people are in institutional quarantine.
