Limited numbers to be allowed in 2021 Kumbh Mela

Saturday, 19 September 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

For the first time in the history of the largest religious congregation in the world- the Kumbh Mela, the number of attendees will be limited and only those with valid passes will be allowed to attend.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said due to Covid-19 pandemic, it has been decided that only a limited number of people will be allowed to attend the Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar during 2021.

In a virtual press conference on Friday, the CM said the state government had held discussions with the Akhada Parishad and it had been decided that due to the situation caused by the pandemic, entry in the Kumbh Mela will not be unrestricted. “We will implement a pass system. Only those issued passes will be allowed to attend the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. However, the Kumbh Mela will be held on schedule,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that before the advent of the Covid pandemic, the State government was expecting that crores of people would be attending the Kumbh Mela at Haridwar in 2021. Due to the pandemic, though the Kumbh Mela will be held as scheduled, the number of people allowed to participate in it will be limited. The first Shahi Snan of Kumbh is slated to be held on March 11, 2021 on the occasion of Maha Shivratri while the fourth Sahi Snan is slated to be held on April 27 on the occasion of Chaitra Poornima.
