Maha Covid cases over 11-L with 23,365 on Wed

Maharashtra crossed another grim landmark of 11 lakh infections on Wednesday, as 23,365 more people tested positive for pandemic taking the total number of infected cases in the state to a  staggering 11,21,221, while an alarming 474 deaths were reported from different parts of the state.

On a day the state witnessed second highest deaths (474) after the fatality peak of 515 witnessed on Tuesday, 23,365 fresh infections were reported.

With the fresh infections, the total number of infected cases went up from  10,97,856 to 11,21,221. Similarly, with 474 fresh deaths, the Covid-19 toll in the state rose from  30,409 to 30,883.

Of the 474 deaths, Mumbai accounted for a maximum of 50 deaths, while there were 48 deaths in Pune, 39 in Nagpur, 38 in Satara, 36 in Ahmednagar, 31 in Sangli, 29 in Thane, 27 in Raigad, 23 in Nashik, 19 in Kolhapur, 14 each in Solapur and Latur, 11 in Amravati and 10 deaths in Ratnagiri

In the lower range, there were 9 fatalities each in Palghar and Beed, 8 each in Jalgaon and Osmanabad, 7 in Aurangabad, 6 each in Parbhani, Nanded and Washim, 5 each in Sindhudurg and Gondia, 3 each in Jalna and Buldhana, 2 each in Nandurbar and Akola and one death each in Dhule, Yavatmal, Wardha, Bhandara and Gadchiroli. In addition, one person from outside the state died in Maharashtra.

While sharp spikes in fatalities were witnessed in the districts of Nagpur, Satara, Ahmednagar, Sanglil, Raigad and Nashik,  two districts in the state recorded no-deaths.

With 50 deaths,  Mumbai’s Covid-19 toll went up from 8,230 to 8,280, while the number of infected cases rose by 2,378  to trigger a jump of the total number of infections from 173,596 to 175,974.

Pune district with 2,44,530 infected cases continued to be the worst-affected city-district in Maharashtra. The number of deaths in Pune increased from 4888 to 4936.

Thane district remained on the third spot --after Pune and Mumbai – with 1,62,754 total cases, while the pandemic toll rose from 4361 to 4390.

In a related development, as many as 17,559 patients were discharged from hospitals in the state after full recovery.

As a result, the total number of patients discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year went up to 7,82,832. The recovery rate stood at 70.71 per cent. The mortality rate in the state is 2.75 per cent. The state health authorities pegged the number of “active cases” in the state at 2,97,125

Out of 55,06, 276 samples sent to laboratories, 11,21,221 have tested positive (20.36 per cent) for COVID-19 until  Wednesday.

Currently, 17,53,347 people are in home quarantine while 36,462 people are in institutional quarantine.
