Maha records 10,320 new cases

The Covid-19 infections crossed 10,000 mark for the third time in nine days in Maharashtra on Friday, as the state recorded 10,320 infected cases, while 265 more people died of pandemic.

A day after it recorded the highest-ever daily tally of 11,147 Covid-19 infections, as many as  10,320 people tested positive for Covid-19 in various parts of the State. The State had earlier witnessed 10576 cases on July 22.

The State witnessed 9,895, 9,615, 9,251 and 9,431 cases on July 23, 24, 25 and 26 respectively, 7,924, 7,717 and 9,211 cases on July 27, 28 and 29 respectively,  while it logged a staggering 11,147 on Thursday.

With 10,320 fresh infections, the total number of positive cases in the State mounted to 4,22,118.

With 265 fresh deaths, the total number of deaths in the State inched closer to 15,000 to touch 14,994.

Of the total 265 deaths, Pune accounted 71 deaths, while Thane recorded 60 deaths.

Mumbai accounted for 53 deaths for the second consecutive day, taking the total number of deaths from 6,300 to 6,353 while the infected cases jumped by 1,085 cases — to touch 1,14,284.

Apart from 71 deaths in Pune, 60 deaths in Thane and 53 deaths in Mumbai, there were 10 deaths each in Raigad and Kolhapur, 8 in Solapur, 7 in Nanded, 6 each in Nashik and Buldhana, 5 each in Palghar and Sangli, 4 in Aurangabad, 3 each in Jalgaon, Latur and Nagpur, 2 each in Parbhani and Osmanabad and one each in Ahmednagar, Dhule, Ratnagiri, Jalna, Beed, Akola, and Amravati.

Meanwhile, as many as 7,543 patients were discharged from hospitals in the State after full recovery, taking the total number of   patients discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year to 2,56,158. The recovery rate rose to 60.68 per cent. The mortality rate in the state is 3.55 per cent. The state health authorities pegged the number of “active cases” in the state at 1,50,662. 

With 93342  infected cases and 2,585 deaths, Thane continued to be the second worst hit district in Maharashtra.

Pune, which has emerged as the third worst affected district in terms of spread of the pandemic, has recorded 89,231 infections and 2169 deaths till now. Out of 21,30,098 samples sent to laboratories, 4,22,118 have tested positive (19.89 per cent) for Covid-19 until Thursday.

Currently, 8,99,557 people are in home quarantine while 39,535 people are in institutional quarantine.
