People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was greeted with black flags during her maiden visit to Jammu after the Abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A on Thursday.
The security personnel deployed outside the exit gate of the airport premises stopped traffic for some time to allow her cavalcade to move smoothly without facing any road block.
Displaying black flags and placards, activists of Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena shouted slogans 'Go back Mehbooba'. She had earlier provoked strong reactions in Jammu by announcing that she will not uphold the Tricolor till the time the state flag is restored.
Mehbooba later chaired a meeting with the PDP leaders from different parts of Jammu division at the state Guest house. She gathered feedback from them about the prevailing political scenario and hardships faced by the people across Jammu region. Three senior PDP leaders from Jammu who recently quit the party stayed away from the meeting.
Emerging out of the meeting former PDP MLC Surinder Choudhary told reporters, “PDP Chief took stock of the political situation and also interacted with PDP leaders from different areas of Jammu division during her maiden visit to Jammu”.
He said the political affairs committee of the party will hold a separate meeting to take a final call over the issue of participating in the District Development council polls beginning November 28.
During her brief stay in Jammu, Mehbooba Mufti is scheduled to attend a meeting of the Peoples Alliance for Gupka Declaration in Jammu on November 7. Member Parliament from Srinagar and National Conference Chief Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are also reaching Jammu on Friday to address a workers meeting.
