With 874 persons testing positive on Friday, the number of persons afflicted with coronavirus in Tamil Nadu reached 20,246. The only consolation for the authorities is the number of patients discharged from various hospitals in the State. Friday saw 765 persons getting cured and discharged from hospitals and this made the total number of active cases in the State as 8,776.
Nine persons were declared dead on Friday and the fatalities reached 154 all over the State. The efforts by the Government to contain the pandemic continued without any hold back as 71 laboratories were working round-the-clock to test the samples. According to the medical bulletin issued by the Tamil Nadu Government, 11, 334 persons were tested on Friday which took the total number of persons tested till date to 4,66, 550.
Chennai continued to be the epicenter of covid-19 in Tamil Nadu with 13,662 persons testing positive till date. There are 6,353 active cases in the district which is closely followed by Chengalpattu (545). There are districts like Namakkal, Nilgiris and Perambalur which do not have even a single coronavirus patient. Dharmapuri, which succeeded in containing the pandemic reported three cases on Friday.
62 persons tested positive for coronavirus in Kerala on Friday, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Speaking to reporters at Thiruvananthapuram, the chief minister said that the hike in coronavirus cases was mainly due to expatriates and persons from other States who returned to Kerala.
“Out of the 62 tested positive today, 33 were from foreign countries, and 23 from other States. Number of hotspots in the State increased to 101,” said the Chief Minister. But he had some news of comfort to the people of the State. “The instances of virus in every 100 tests done in Kerala is 1.7 per cent and this is the best in the country,” claimed Vijayan. He also ruled out the possibility of community/social transmission in the State.
