As 1,091 persons tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday, the total number of persons tested for the pandemic in Tamil Nadu till date reached 24,586, according to a bulletin released by the Department of Health.
Taking into account the 536 persons discharged from various hospitals in the State on Tuesday and the number of samples tested negative, the total number of active cases in the State as on Tuesday evening is 10,680, said the release.
The State tested a total of 5,14, 433 samples till date out of which 4,89, 258 samples were tested negative. The number of fatalities reached 197 as 13 persons succumbed to the pandemic on Tuesday. Out of the 13 who breathed their last on Tuesday, eight were in the age group of 70 to 78, four were in the 50- 56 age group while one was 62.
Except for a 78 year-old man who was admitted to the hospital with fever and myalgia, all others who died on Tuesday had co-morbid conditions like Type-2 diabetes or hypertension.
Out of the 1091 tested positive on Tuesday, 806 were from Chennai, said the release. There are 7,880 active coronavirus cases in the capital city.
Meanwhile, in Kerala, 86 persons were tested positive for the pandemic. Out of this 46 persons were those who reached the State from foreign countries while 26 were from other States in the country.
A press release issued by the Government of Kerala said that till Tuesday 71,068 samples have been tested for coronavirus. The number of hotspots in the State went up to 122.
