Yogi seeks Central assistance for flood relief

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide financial assistance to Uttar Pradesh for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people.

The request was made during a video-conferencing.

On Monday, the prime minister reviewed the flood situation with chief ministers of flood-affected states through video conferencing, in which he was apprised of relief measures being implemented by different states.

The prime minister assured the UP government of full assistance in combating floods and for the relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the calamity.

Yogi Adityanath informed the prime minister that 15 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and nine teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and 17 flood companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary were deployed for relief and rescue operations in flood-affected districts of UP.

He said the NDRF had organised a mock drill while preparing for relief operations on July 1. He also informed the prime minister that flood helpline 1070 was also being operated by the relief commissioner of UP.

The chief minister said that so far, 88 flood protection projects with an outlay of Rs 856 crore had been completed and Rs 318 crore was released so far by the state government for 2020-21 fiscal.

He said all necessary repair and strengthening of flood protection embankments was done before the coronavirus pandemic.

He also said that in all flood-affected districts, flood protection outposts, wireless centres and flood control rooms were operational.

Yogi further said that breaches in flood protection embankments was reported from Mau, Azamgarh and Gonda and they were repaired.

He said that in 20 flood-affected districts, a little over one lakh families or 5.75 lakh people were affected by the floods.

The chief minister said that standing Kharif crop on 38,248 hectares land was ravaged and so far, 13 people had died due to floods.

The flood-affected districts in UP include Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Ballia, Balrampur, Barabanki, Basti, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mau, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Deoria, Sant Kabir Nagar, Pilibhit , Pratapgarh and Sitapur. 

Yogi also informed the prime minister that over 90,000 food packets and food grain kits containing 17 items were distributed among affected people, 178 cattle camps were set up and over six lakh cattle head were vaccinated.
