PM: Corona a long battle, also opportunity for Make-in-India

While indicating that the country should be ready for a long haul, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday assured that “power of light of 130 crore Indians” as reflected from Sunday night’s togetherness has provided enough strength to “all of us” to prepare for “a long battle” against coronavirus pandemic.

“..130 crore deshvashiyon ki mahashakti ke mahaprayash se utpann mahaprakash ne deshvasiyon ko ek lambi ladai ke leye taiyar kiya hai..”, said the Prime Minister addressing the BJP on the occasion of party’s foundation day.

Modi said, “Today our aim, mission and determination is one and that is to score victory against coronavirus.”

Modi on Monday asked Union Ministers to prepare plans to fight the economic impact of COVID-19 on war footing and asserted that this crisis is an opportunity to boost the “Make-in-India” initiative and reduce dependence on other countries.

The Prime Minister further said “in this hour of crisis, the responsibility of party workers towards rashtra seva and manav seva increases more so,” and appealed them to carry out five-fold task to battle out the pandemic.

Modi asked party “karyakartas’ to help and feed those in need, reaffirm the importance of social distancing and contribute to PM-Care fund amid the coronavirus pandemic that has been impacting the country. He also asked each worker to help 40 people load Arogya app.

“We mark our party’s 40th anniversary when India is battling COVID-19. I appeal to BJP karyakartas to follow the set of guidelines from our party president JP Nadda-ji, help those in need and reaffirm the importance of social distancing. Let’s make India COVID-19-free,” he tweeted.

The BJP was founded in 1980 on April 6 emerging from the Rs Bhartiya JansanghRs  with Atal Bihari Vajpayee as its first president.

Modi said all BJP workers will provide one meal to the poor on the occasion of party’s foundation day as a way to show solidarity with people facing hardships during the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus.

Modi paid tribute to all those who have toiled hard to build the party over the decades and said the party workers have got the opportunity to serve crores, but stressed that social distancing rules must be adhered to.

“Whenever the BJP has got the opportunity to serve, the party has focussed on good governance and empowering the poor. In line with the party’s ethos, our karyakartas have worked hard to bring a positive difference in the lives of many and done great social service,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister said in last few weeks countrymen have shown exemplary unity and solidarity with each other and expressed their determination to defeat the enemy at hand.

Nadda, who took over as the BJP chief in January, has asked party workers to hoist party flags at all offices and at every karyakarta’s house while maintaining social distancing norms to mark the party’s 40th foundation day. He also said party workers will give up one meal to show solidarity with people facing hardships during the lockdown. Besides, he has asked workers to provide food packets to needy.

Nadda also asked party workers to encourage 40 others to donate Rs 100 each to the PM-cares fund. Also, he has asked them to contact 40 houses at booth level and get their signatures on 5 thank you letters for police, doctors and nurses, safai karamcharis, bank and postal employees, and Government and civic employees.

Party workers are also to make at least two face masks at their homes for the people. All these steps suggested by the Prime Minister and the party president would be undertaken by the BJP workers across all States.

Soon after the three-week lockdown Nadda had asked each party worker to feed five poor people affected by the shutdown. The appeal from the Prime Minister is a second appeal to the party to do the needful in the wake of hardships caused by the lockdown which may get extended beyond April 14.
