Most of us forget that keeping our teeth healthy is just as important as keeping the rest of the body fit. But by following a few simple things, one can ensure healthy teeth for life, says Roshani Devi

Indians tend to ignore teeth problem. This has a down side. A study says that 53 per cent suffer common tooth problem like bleeding gums, bad breath, sensitive teeth, receding gums and decayed teeth, 77 per cent people said they had not visited a dentist in the last one year (2017), says a nation-wide study by AC Nielsen.

This means that there is a possibility that in the old age you may end up with no natural teeth. However,  there are a few home remedies that can help keep your teeth healthy.

  • Drink a lot of water. Not only is it good for the body, water washes away the food and bacteria left in and around the mouth after a meal. It also neutralises the acidity that erodes the enamel.
  • Eating meat, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products provides the nutrients teeth need like calcium.
  • Eat sesame seed. It  acts like a dental scrub. It will also remove plaque and tartar.
  • Take your time to brush your teeth. There was a reason why our elders insisted we brush our teeth after every meal. Brush in circular, up and down, side by side, and diagonal motions. This will help you cover all the areas.
