“Jagdev Kankali” folk play in Kuchamani Khyal style staged

The “Jagdev Kankali” folk play in Kuchamani Khyal style was staged at the Madhya Pradedh State Tribal Museum on Friday.

The play was directed by Bansi Lal Khel (Rajasthan) under Abhinayan series of dramas.

 Folk play is based on the narration of Lord Jagadev, the eldest son of King Udayadeep of Dharanagari. 'Nar Jagdev' is the son of the late queen of the king, the second wife of the king does not take care of his step son.

On the way to the palace, one day Goddess Kankali has to pass and seeing the child crying she takes care of the child as a maid. When the male Jagdev grows up, at the behest of the stepmother, the king expels him from the court and hands over the kingdom to Randhaval, the son of a second wife.  Jagdev leaves that state and works in the court of King Jayachandra in Kannauj state.

The queen of Kannauj is troubled by the mistreatment of a demon named Chandrika Bhairava. When asked by which the king remains very sad, the king told the whole thing to Nar Jaidev. According to the King's order, the male Jagdev watches that night, Bhairava battles the demon in which the male Jagdev is victorious.

In this happiness, the king proposes marriage with his elder daughter to the male Jagdev. The demon, saddened by the defeat, is also a devotee of Mata Kankali and demands the death of male Jagdev from his mother.

She takes the form of a petitioner seeking alms, comes to the king's court.

The king misbehaves with them, then she teaches the king a lesson, while he asks for her head from the male Jaidev. Seeing the severed head, Bhairava is transformed and he asks goddess to revive him.
