The Menstrual Hygiene Week 2020 was celebrated by the Ananya Girls’ Federation in association with the NGOs Save the Children and ASHA ODISHA from May 22 to 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management here. It is an annual awareness event celebrated all over the world since 2014.
The members of Alibha discussed and spread message through social media, art, poetry, video clips and home visits. They also discussed about their problems with doctors through zoom meeting.
A poem recitation to spread message on menstrual hygiene awareness by a girl named Salini Sahu has been highly appreciated and has drawn attention of Bollywood actresses like Twinkle Khanna, Dia Mirza and Neha Dhupia, who have shared Salini's tweet with comments "PERIOD. Is what made Shalini travel from a village in Nuapada in Odisha to ‘Women Deliver’ event in Canada. She is a champion who uses poetry to spread awareness on menstruation in her community. I celebrate her poetry and spirit," tweeted Dia Mirza.
The objective of the awareness drive was to draw attention of all concerned including the Government about the problem of girls and to facilitate availability of low cost sanitary pads," said federation secretary Salini.
