‘No building plan violation allowed now’

Wednesday, 01 July 2020 | Santosh Narayan | Daltonganj

As the newly crafted Medininagar Municipal Corporation (MMC) is currently on the notice issuing spree against illegal construction, its Commissioner has ruled out any leniency on his part in future. Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Prasad, has outlined some of the measures for the facelift of the divisional headquarter of Palamu.

“Notices are being served to all the residents who have been reported for any kind of violation. Getting an approved building plan is must. This town has been growing unplanned but now when its area has been expanded like anything since having graduated to Nagar Nigam, we are not going to let anybody off,” said the Commissioner.

MMC has in recent times issued notices against new constructions which are not in the accordance to set the norms such as rainwater harvesting, sufficient exit and entry points, open spaces and drainage. The Municipal Commissioner stressed that the Nigam has adopted new software where building plan with any kind non-compliance would get rejected outrightly.

“There is nothing manual. The system in place would not accept any kind of deviation,” he added.

Dinesh Prasad at the same time also talked about some of the future plans for the historic town in order to make it hospitable for the residents. “We are developing ‘Bada Talab’ like a park. Jogging tacks, pathways, fountains with filtered water, lightings etc are some of the major features.

Work has already  started and soon it is going to be gifted to the residents,” he said and expressed commitment to erase all encroachments coming in the way.

The pond situated right in the middle of the town has been under severe illegal occupation and filled with sewage making it a stinking garbage dump. Experts feel that revival of the water body is significant not only for the underground water table but also securing it like the ‘lung’ of the town for the future.

Important to note that after being upgraded into Municipal Corporation in 2018 the town is missing any suitable solid waste disposal ground. But the issue has been resolved now with demarcation of a site near Chainpur which is situated on the other side of the River Koyal.

“We have marked that place as solid waste disposal site. As much as 85 per cent of the waste collected will be transformed into manure,” he informed.

Nevertheless the official expressed worry over fund crunch since grants have dried up and ULBs are mandated to manage resources of their own.

“We are also looking up to the funds coming from 14th and 15th Finance Commission besides the taxes we collect. That is why schemes from different wards are being taken one by one and on priority basis,” concluded Dinesh Prasad.
