Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday expressed concern that the Central government’s 'One Nation, One Market’ ordinance is unfavourable for farmers and will ruin the ‘mandi’ system.
Most farmers are small marginalized farmers who cannot travel to other states to sell their agricultural produce. This will deprive farmers from receiving minimum support price for their crops, he said after inaugurating and laying foundation of development works for Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district.
Baghel said the amendments done by the Centre in the Essential Goods Act will create problems to act against hoarding and inflation.
Contractual farming will favour private companies, he said. The entry of private companies into cooperative sector will result in multinational companies and industrialists taking over the cooperatives institutions.
The Chief Minister said while many countries have managed to successfully control Covid-19, it has become a crisis in India.
If the Central government had adopted a more creative and compassionate approach, the nation would not have had gone through such a difficult time, he said.
He said that using the corona crisis, the Central government has brought four ordinances for exploitation of farmers today.
With amendments in the Essential Goods Act 1955, production and sale of fertilizers have also been deregulated. Provision has been made to allow private equity in contractual farming and cooperative banks.
