The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) has urged the State Government to remove the Tata Power Company Limited from electric distribution work alleging that consumers are facing difficulties due to frequent power cuts occurring since the company was given the charge on June 1, 2020.
“Power cuts are occurring frequently every day in cities and rural areas now. Farmers, school students, businessmen are suffering a lot. Water supply projects have been hit. Faults in meters and decreasing of rebate period in payment of tariff from earlier 15 days to seven days have added to the woes of the consumers. To stop monopoly in power service and consumer exploitation, the Government should drive away the Tata Power soon,” urged SUCI (C) Cuttack district secretary Biswabasu Das and other regional committee secretaries Khageswar Sethi, Rajkishore Mallick, Bobby Balabantray and Siddhartha Rath in a statement.
They demanded that the Government should ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers, extend rebate period to one month and sort out meter glitches soon. They said the party would take to a mass agitation if demands are not met soon.
