A bus carrying around 40 Odia migrants from Hyderabad to Banki in Cuttack district met with an accident near Kuhudi on NH-16 in Khordha distrcit on Monday night killing the driver and leaving two passengers injured.
The mishap occurred when the bus hit a truck from the rear and veered off the road. While the exact cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the bus driver might have dozed off and lost control over the vehicle.
Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers. Two persons, who sustained injuries in the accident, were admitted to the Tangi hospital, said sources.
Later, the stranded passengers were shifted to their destination in another bus.
It is the fourth such road mishap in a row when a bus carrying Odia migrants from other States met with an accident while en-route to State.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera on Tuesday said that as accidents are frequently occurring with buses ferrying Odia migrants from other States amid the lockdown, steps would be taken to caution such drivers at border check-points.
Behera requested the people stranded in other States not to be in a hurry and try to travel to Odisha by trains, because the drivers from other States are not familiar with the terrain and road conditions here.
