Covid-19 claimed 10 more lives in the State on Thursday, taking the toll to 235. Ganjam district reported three deaths followed by two in Sundargarh and one each in Nayagarh, Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Keonjhar.
The Ganjam deceased were a 52-year-old man, a 40-year-old man and a 55 -year-old man. The deceased in Sundargarh were a 28-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man. The other casualties were a 39-year-old man of Nayagarh, a 40-year-old man of Nabarangpur, a 53-yar-old woman of Bhadrak, a 61-year-old man of Kandhamal and a 52-year-old man of Keonjhar, the Health and Family Welfare Department said.
Meanwhile, the uptick in coronavirus cases continued on Thursday with detection of the highest-ever 1,699 new cases. With this, the total tally in the State reached 40,717.
Of the new cases, 1,073 were from quarantine centres and 626 local contact cases.
The day’s highest 268 cases were detected in Ganjam district followed by Khordha 220, Sundargarh 178, Cuttack 105, Sambalpur 101, Baragarh 81, Bhadrak 66, Kandhaml 74, Malkangiri 72, Gajapati 59, Keonjhar 56, Jajpur 41, Kalahandi 30, Mayurbhanj 24, Kendrapada and Dhenkanal 27 each, Balangir 21, Baleswar 17, Jharsuguda 10 and Boudh eight.
However, another 1,150 patients recovered on the day, increasing the total recoveries to 26,887.
The highest 290 recovered in Ganjam district, followed by 197 in Khordha, 121 in Rayagada,76 in Sundargarh, 47 in Jajpur, 45 in Koraput 44 in Cuttack, 40 in Puri, 35 in Nayagarh, 33 in Keonjhar, 25 in Baleswar, 25 in Kalahandi, 24 in Mayurbhanj, 23 in Sambalpur, 22 in Balangir, 15 in Bhadrak, 14 in Kandhamal, 11 in Jagatsinghpur, 11 in Kendrapada, 10 in Malkangiri, eight in Nuapada, seven in Baragarh, six in Dhenkanal, five each in Angul and Subarnapur, four each in Gajapati and Jharsuguda, two each in Boudh and one in Nabarangpur.
