11 IEDs detected at West Singhbhum, major mishap averted

Sunday, 02 August 2020 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The West Singhbhum district police, Jharkhand Jaguar and CRPF personnel, engaged in flushing out ultras of CPI (Maoists) detected IEDs ( improvised explosive device  )planted in a series under Goielkera Police Station area of the West Singhbhum district.

Police said that the bombs were found on the road connecting Kurkutiya to Husipi. A police official said that about 11 IEDs weighing around 20 kgs connected with a codex wire were detected during the drive. An anti-bomb disposal squad was pressed in to defuse the bombs.

" A major blast has been averted by the security forces. Had the bombs been triggered a large number of villagers would have died. We have increased vigil in the area. As the patrolling security personnel recovered the bombs we immediately pressed an anti-bomb disposal squad on service and the bombs were defused. We have decided to intensify the long range patrolling in forest of Saranda and Porahat in West Singhbhum, Chowka, Chandil and Kuchai in Seraikela-Kharsawan district and Ghatshila, Ghurabandha, Dalma and Patamda in East Singhbhum district during from today,” said an official.

Sources informed that the mobility of the police has prevented the extremists from carrying out any violent activity in past few days in the entire Kolhan. All the police stations in the three districts of the division including East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharswan have been asked to beef up the security and keep a vigil at the bordering areas.

“Security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxalites. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,” said another official.

In this backdrop, the district police have sounded an alert in their jurisdiction undertaking extensive vehicle checking, frisking of motorists and searches at all public places. However, they were clueless about the persons who placed the bombs.

Police said apart from ensuring deployment of additional police and paramilitary forces, the combing operations and patrolling has been intensified to check the possibility of entry of Maoists from neighbouring states. It has also stepped up intelligence-gathering in view of martyrs’ week.
