119 schools of J’khand to get cleanliness award from CM

As many as 119 schools of Jharkhand will get Mukhyamantri Swaccha Puraskar for maintaining excellent level of cleanliness.

“The programme is likely to be held in December. Chief minister Hemant Soren will be the chief guest of the programme. The idea of the award is to create awareness for cleanliness among children and how to manage schools in a better way. During the programme the Chief Minister will also felicitate some selected students for their excellent academic performances,” a senior official of CM secretariat told The Pioneer. 

A total of 44,441 schools across 24 districts of Jharkhand had participated in the competition. Schools were judged on five broad parameters namely provision of drinking water, toilet, hand wash along with soap, operation and maintenance besides behavioural change and capacity building. On this basis grades were awarded to schools. For instance, such schools securing 90 per cent to 100 per cent five-star grades were given. Four-star grade was awarded to schools that secured marks between 75 per cent and 89 per cent. Schools getting marks between51 per cent and 74 per cent got three-star ranking. Schools securing   between 35 per cent and 50 per cent were rated as two-star and those below 35 per cent were given one star.

As many as 928 schools secured five-star grades followed by 5,668 schools as four-star, 27,951 as three-star, 6917 as two-star and 2977 as one-star. To ensure error free evaluation the education department conducted a third party audit of all such schools with five-star ranking. Third party assessment was done by BIT Mesra. Third party audit found 740 schools qualify for five-star ranking. Among 740 schools 119 schools were picked for Mukhyamantri Swacchta Puraskar.

The CM, on this occasion, will also give reward to 59 students for their excellent performance during matriculation and intermediate examination 2020 conducted by Jharkhand Academic Council, CBSE and ICSE.
