2 COVID-19 cases reported in Haridwar on Wed

Four new cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported by the health and family welfare department of Uttarakhand on Wednesday which increased the number of cases in the state to 35. Two patients of the disease each were reported from Haridwar and Nainital districts on the day. In Haridwar both the cases of the disease were reported from Jwalapur area and they are Tablighi Jamaat followers. It is learnt that both of them had returned to Haridwar on March 27 after attending the Jamat congregation. The administration had put them in the quarantine in Kaliyar. After their swab samples were found positive for Coronavirus, the authorities shifted them to the isolation ward of Mela hospital of Haridwar which is a dedicated COVID-19 treatment centre. With these patients the number of COVID-19 patients in the district increased to three.  The surfacing of two patients from Jwalapur area prompted authorities to seal three mohallas of the area. The teams of health department are also engaged in contact tracing of the people these two patients came into contact.

In Nainital district two patients reported on the day are residents of Haldwani town. It is learnt that one of them was Jamaat follower who had attended the congregation in Nizamuddin while the other had got infection from him. The administration shifted both of them from quarantine centre to the government Sushila Tiwari hospital on Wednesday after their report came positive for the disease.

Meanwhile, the additional secretary health and Mission Director (MD) of National Health Mission  (NHM), Yugal Kishore Pant said a total of 109 relief camps are operating in different parts of the state in which 4500 people was lodged. In these camps, regular health checkups and regular counselling sessions are being organised. He said that about 40000 labourers of other states are stranded in the state and the administration is providing relief to them.  Pant added that for contact tracing of the people a control is set up and here information about 21000 people has been received so far.

He said that reports of 101 suspected patients of the disease was received by the department on Wednesday, out of them four samples were found positive while 97 were found negative for the disease. On Wednesday samples of 114 suspected patients was taken and sent to the lab for test of COVID-19 and reports of 221 samples are still awaited. Pant added that a total of 1403 samples of suspected patients have so far been taken for COVID-19 test.   He said that a total of 42812 people are in home quarantine while 1468 are in institutional quarantine.  The authorities have kept 176 suspected patients of the disease in hospital isolation.
