4 more die of Covid; State toll rises to 56

The State reported four more Covid-19 deaths on Friday, increasing the total toll to 56. All the four deaths were reported from Ganjam district.

“Regret to inform the demise of four Covid positive patients of Ganjam district while under treatment in hospital. The victims include a 41-year-old man suffering from hypertension, a 58-year-old man, a 48-year-old man suffering from diabetes and a 32-year-old man also suffering from diabetes,” the Health and Family Welfare Department said.

Besides, two more Covid patients of Sundargarh and Bhadrak districts died due to other health issues. The death toll other than Covid has now risen to 17 in the State.

Meanwhile, the State on the day registered a record single-day surge of 755 new coronavirus cases, taking the total tally to 11,956. Of these cases, 508 were reported from quarantine centres while 247 were local contacts.

The day’s highest 320 cases were reported from Ganjam district, followed by Jajpur 86, Sundargarh 62, Khordha 59, Cuttack 55, Keonjhar 32, Gajapati 30, Malkangiri 18, Nayagarh 16, Mayurbhanj 12, Puri 11, Baleswar nine, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Koraput five each, Angul three and Kandhamal and Bhadrak two each and Bargarh one.

However, a record 565 patients recovered from the disease on Friday, taking the total recoveries to 7,972 in the State. The highest 185 recovered in Ganjam district, followed by 85 in Rayagada, 45 in Balangir, 32 in Cuttack, 24 each in Bargarh and Sundargarh, 23 in Angul, 17 each in Baleswar  and Jagatsinghpur 15 in Khordha,13 in Jajpur, 10 in Kendrapada, eight each in Gajapati, Jharsuguda and Nabarangpur,  seven in Mayurbhanj, four in Bhadrak, three in Puri, two each in Dhenkanaland Keonjhar and one each in Boudh, Kandhamal and Sambalpur.
