Admin to set up disinfection chambers at city markets

Thursday, 09 April 2020 | PNS | Jamshedpur

With lockdown period expected to be extended further, the East Singhbhum district administration has planned to set up disinfection chambers at city markets. Moreover, if everything goes at planned disinfection tunnels would be seen at inter-state border points.

One such chamber was set up at the temporary vegetable market at Sakchi at the parking bay near the Basant Talkies Roundabout.

“ Sensing the need of sensitisation we have installed the disinfection chamber at the vegetable market which has been temporarily shifted near the Basant Talkies Roundabout for the vegetable sellers and also for the buyer. Depending on the response we would be installing similar facilities at crowded places like Golmuri, Bistupur, Kadma and Sonari,” said Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), special officer, Krishna Kumar.

Significantly, earlier this week, the district administration had started a full-body disinfection chamber donated by the state health department for healthcare workers dedicated for the isolation wards (set up for novel coronavirus suspected cases).

The portable disinfection chamber has a mist sprayer through which sanitizers would be sprayed on throughout the body disinfecting it in nearly five minutes.

JNAC has also initiated a drive on cleaning and sanitising the open space vegetable markets especially that are allotted during the lockdown. As a result, a majority of people were seen going to market.

The civic body has launched a massive drive to clean and sanitise the markets. Also, he appealed to people to not visit the market daily and stock up for at least three- four days to avoid unnecessary crowd.

He noted that movement of people has been limited to emergency and essential services to contain the possible spread of the coronavirus. In effect, it means citizens cannot come out of their homes and move around in public places unless they have an emergency to explain.

City police have deployed a large force of officers at earmarked crossings to check the movement of vehicles. Multiple teams are patrolling the city to ensure people stay indoors.

The administration has issued a lockdown notice, barring essential and emergency services. “Do not step out of home unless absolutely necessary, otherwise it will not be possible to contain the spread of the contagious virus. Else, be prepared to face the police,” an officer said. Food items and medicines are among services exempt from the lockdown following the outbreak of the virus.

A Disinfection Chamber has been set up at the MGM Hospital as a measure to check the infection of coronavirus. The chamber has been especially set up for doctors and medical staff attending to patients in the isolation ward. Such doctors and medical staff will be moved to the Disinfection Chamber after they emerge from the isolation ward so that the chances of the virus on them are cleared.
