The Odisha Crime Branch police arrested Dara Sena chief Mukesh Jain for allegedly opposing a Supreme Court order over suspension of Rath Yatra in Puri recently.
The 58-year-old Jain was arrested from his residence in Delhi. He was handed over to the Sahadevkhunta police in Baleswar district on Friday and then forwarded to a local court following interrogation. His bail application was rejected.
Jain, founder-president of Dara Singh Bachao Samiti, a fringe outfit fighting for Dara’s release, had made derogatory statement against the Chief Justice of India after the apex court ordered to cancel holding of Rath Yatra in Puri for Covid.
Notably, Dara Singh was allegedly involved in killing of Australian missionary Graham Stains and his two minor sons in 1999.
Jain is also accused of extorting people on various social media platforms to raise voice against the CJI over the decision. In this regard, three FIRs were lodged at three police stations at Sahadevkhunta, Bhadrak and Crime Branch.
