AP govt to adopt Varanasi’s waste mgmt model

Thursday, 26 November 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

Varanasi’s solid and liquid waste management model under the Namami Gange Programme has caught the fancy of Andhra Pradesh as the AP government is planning to implement the same model in the rural and urban areas of its state.

To study the best practices related to solid and liquid waste management, Praveen Prakash, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, will visit Varanasi on November 28 and 29.

“I am planning to visit Varanasi to have a first-hand understanding of various parameters being implemented through this programme,” Prakash said.

It may be recalled that the Yogi Adityanath government had implemented the solid and liquid waste management model in Varanasi as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a Smart City component.

It may also be mentioned that an independent trust, Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam (TTD), is also planning to construct Sri Venkateswara temple in the holy city of Varanasi on 5 acre land.

Varanasi District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said the model would be taken forward after discussion with the AP team.
