Babri demolition case judgement on Sept 30

Thursday, 17 September 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

The special CBI court hearing the Babri mosque demolition case of December 6, 1992 in which senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh and Uma Bharti are among the 32 accused, will pronounce its judgement on September 30.
Special CBI Judge SK Yadav had reserved the judgement on September 2. The court on Wednesday announced that it would pronounce the verdict on September 30.
The special court has directed all the 32 accused, including former deputy prime minister Lal Krishna Advani, former Union minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh, to be present in the court on the day of the judgement.
The hearing of the trial was completed on August 30 but the written submission was made on September 2, after which the verdict was reserved.
Special judge SK Yadav, who has retired but has been given extension on the orders of the Supreme Court, has been asked by the apex court to complete the formalities by September 30.
All the accused have claimed that they are innocent and that they were implicated in the conspiracy for political reasons.
Advani, who recorded his statement on July 24, 2020 through video conferencing from New Delhi, had denied all charges of the CBI against him on the conspiracy to demolish the Babri mosque structure.
Similarly, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi said he was innocent. Dr Joshi said he was not present there at the time of the demolition and he was politically implicated in the case.
Kalyan Singh, while appearing in the trial court on July 13, 2020, had accused the then Congress government of implicating him in the Ayodhya demolition case.
“As a chief minister of UP, we had made elaborate security arrangements to protect the structure and from time to time had given orders to strengthen its security cover,” he said before the court.
Presently Singh is admitted in the SGPGI for treatment of COVID-19.
The other accused who recorded their statements included BJP MPs Braj Bhushan Sharan Singh, Lalu Singh, Sakshi Maharaj, former MPs Vinay Katiyar, Ram Vilas Vedanti, VHP leader and Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai, Sadhvi Ritambhara, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Mahant Dharamdas, RN Srivastava, Pawan Kumar Pandey and Satish Pradhan.
