With bed occupancy reaching over 90 per cent in most of the COVID hospitals in the city, the administration has started hunting for new health hubs.
Presently, the coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at three hospitals, Tata Main Hospital, Tata Motors Hospital and MGM Medical College Hospital. As bed occupancy in the three hospitals has reached over 90 percent the administration is prompted for carrying out inspection for other hospitals.
“The corona cases have crossed 500 marks in 55 days. In order to make sure that there is no shortage of beds for patients we are looking for more options and talking to hospital management.
We are confident that proper arrangements will be made soon,” said an official.
District civil surgeon Dr RN Jha said at present most of the COVID cases are emerging from within the city limit and are resulting in contact with the infected people.
He pointed out the number of COVID cases is increasing fast and even the workers employed in big industries are being tested positive.
The district administration and its health wing have intensified the war against coronavirus in the face of a spike in the deadly disease in the district.
A team also visited St John's Hospital, located along the NH-33 route to Ghatshila. St John's Hospital management welcomed the inspection team and made them aware that they are always ready for treating the COVID patients.
Tata Steel has also made arrangements for 507 Isolation beds and 77 critical care beds with invasive and non-invasive ventilators in the process of being set-up at TMH, Jamshedpur. A total of 130 Isolation bed facilities are already operational at TMH.
Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla has appealed to the people of the district to strictly follow the rules of home quarantine. Even a slight negligence can hit many people in corona. He advised people to strictly adhere to physical distance and essentially use masks and sanitizers.
“We are taking every step to ensure that people having travel history are covered. We want to screen every individual who might have come from abroad or from another state or district to East Singhbhum and want to reach each of the houses in urban and rural areas of the district in a limited time span,” said the official.
