Bed occupancy reaches high in Covid hospitals

Tuesday, 14 July 2020 | Mrituanjay Kumar | Ranchi

Increasing numbers of positive cases of COVID 19 generated another problem for the State Government as the beds arranged for infected patients are being occupied fast and the Government has to create more beds to accommodate new patients.

There are two main hospitals -- Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) and Central Coalfield Limited's (CCL) Gandhinagar Hospital, where treatment for COVID 19 infected patients is going on. As many as 100 patients can get treatment at RIMS where the total bed capacity of CCL Gandhinagar Hospital is 60. At present 79 patients are getting treatment at RIMS and 53 COVID 19 infected patients are admitted in Gandhinagar Hospital

Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr Vijay Bihari Prasad said that there is no scarcity of beds and there are alternative arrangements of beds. “Arrangements are going on to provide facilities for treatment for COVID 19 patients at Ratu, Kanke and Pithoria. If any patients detect positive at private hospitals then they will be treated at that hospital. The private hospitals can't send Corona infected patients to RIMS. An order issued for the private hospitals to provide treatment COVID 19 cases along with other patients," he added.

Ranchi Deputy Commissioner, Rai Mahimpat Ray also assured that there is no scarcity of bed in the district. "The patients will be admitted to HEC Paras Hospital if beds will be full at RIMS and Gandhinagar. There are arrangements for 50 beds at the hospital," said Ray.

South Eastern Railway's (SER) Ranchi Rail Division has also established a 50 bed isolation ward at Railway Protection Force (RPF) barrack hospital along with all facilities including dedicated toilets to admit Corona virus infected patients. Similar arrangements have also been made at Railway Hospital at Hatia with eight beds in an isolated ward in which four beds allocated for male patients and four beds allocated for female patients.

A total nine patients died on Sunday after getting infected with Coronavirus which is the highest on any single day in the State. So far a total of 33 COVID 19 infected patients have died in the State.
