As speculated, a day after quitting the Congress, Rajkishore Behera along with his followers joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party’s State headquarters here on Friday.
Besides, former Jagatsinghpur Congress MLA Kailash Mallick also joined the saffron party.
Behera had resigned from primary membership of Congress and tendered his resignation to Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik.
Speculations are also rife that Behera is likely to contest Tirtol Assembly by-election in Jagatsinghpur distict as a BJP candidate.
The BJP is yet to make any formal announcement in this regard.
Behera had unsuccessfully contested the 2009 and 2014 Assembly elections from Tirtol as a Congress candidate.
