Bidding the Year Good Bye

Saturday, 26 December 2020 | Amritanshu Prasad

The New Year is all about hope and change. The World travels in its time machine to a yet new year. X’Mas becomes the harbinger of hope in the coming year and we feel blessed to enter into the realm of hope and belief. We expect some novelty or boon awaiting us in the New Year which will be delivered a la Santa Claus. The romanticism of serendipity and the burgeoning hope in the hearts grips our minds. We expect that something good or interesting is going to happen now and will come up our way, keep us enticed and interested as the year 2020metamorphoses into 2021.

The year gone by was treacherous and stealthily took away many flowers from the garden of the World while delivering many “unkind cuts “and wreaking havoc. The “Covidian Crisis” played foul with our lives and rendered a blow, unseen and unimagined, in all its fury and furore. Now that a vaccine is insight and the number of cases is showing a southward trend, we hope that the enemy will be finally vanquished. Although the latest mutant virus has again reared its head terrorizing people and even causing the share market shake-up, there is a hope that with discipline, control and the antidote, we shall overcome the situation.  Despite the shocking flashback of 2020which terrorized us, made us shudder, where the deaths caused despair and the hopelessness of a worthy tomorrow agonized our minds like a nightmare, we would still like to welcome the New Year because the flame of hope and faith keeps burning despite all odds.

Considering the unrelenting hope and faith and the unputdownable human aspiration, what appears to be in store for us in 2021? With the farmers braving the merciless cold in Delhi we hope the New Year witnesses a solution to their problem. 2020 also saw brewing of hostilities between the two Asian giants China and India. We hope the same may get resolved mostly at the table and not again in the higher reaches of Himalayas. The economy which took a severe beating plummeting the growth scorecard to a new low, is again able to claw back to its original position. But most importantly, the human hope to survive the chaotic period and attain its glory through honest efforts is realized.

Someone rightly said “Hope is like a bird that senses the dawn and carefully starts to sing while it is still dark.” We hope the dark night of 2020 will fizzle away and the morning sun of 2021 will start to unfold its bonanza for humanity at large. Let our hopes be rekindled with joy and expectation. Happy 2021!
