The Bharatiya Bikash Parishad gheraoed the office of Southco here on Tuesday in support of its 10-point charter of demands.
Parishad Surendra Panigrahi alleged that the Southco was exploiting the people of south Odisha and looting money of the poor public. On the one hand, there is frequent load shedding and and on the other, there is no respite from low voltage problem.
Their demands include rollback of hike in energy bill, stop illegal collection of Rs 2,200 from the consumers towards meter charges and illegal and forceful disconnection, release dues worth Rs 9,518.72 crore pending on Southco, Wesco, Nesco, Reliance and other distribution companies, reflect contact no of the fuse call officer in bill, take action against the top officials for the death of 11 innocent people in Mandraspur incident and change the existing 5 AMP fuse wire to 40 AMP fuse wire, among others.
The Parishad submitted a copies of the memorandum to the State Governor, the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary, Energy, Commissioner, OERC, Bhubaneswar, CEO of Southco, the RDC (South), the district Collector, the Commissioner of OHRC and the Commissioner of Odisha Consumers’ Forum, Brahampur.
