After lime procured to sanitize roads and drains failed the quality tests, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh accused the Raipur Mayor and the Corporation of corruption amid the Covid-19 pandemic, putting lives in the capital city at risk.
The lime bought by the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) was found to be sub-standard.
BJP spokesperson and former RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava said: “It is quite surprising that half of the stock procured has been sprayed in the city limits. Soil content was found higher in several sacks of lime. No action has been taken yet against those responsible for the purchase and the agency which has supplied the material.”
He added: “Instead of initiating stern action, the RMC administration is returning the supplied materials to the agency for replacement. Are the RMC and Mayor trying to cover up the issue by replacing the lime?”
Demanding to make public all details concerning the purchase, the BJP leader said: “People have the right to know the facts as why no notice has been issued to the officials and the agency for such an act of corruption.”
He said the Mayor had raised allegations against the central government for not providing adequate rank to Raipur for cleanliness. But the Mayor has feigned ignorance of corruption happening under his nose, he said.
