Senior BJP leader and party spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo has alleged that religious conversion of tribals has become rampant in Jharkhand in the coalition government and demanded Jharkhand Police to take strong actions against people and groups involved in this.
Shahdeo on Thursday posted a comment on his Twitter handle where he referred to one such case of an alleged attempt of conversion of a tribal family of Kulgara village under Latehar police station area of Latehar district.
Shahdeo also shared a copy of the complaint lodged by complainants named Shankar Bhuiyan and Kariman Bhuiyan on Wednesday.
Shankar alleged that a person Arsel Tirkey of Bhushur village is forcing his son Lalu Bhuiyan, daughter-in-law Anju Devi and two of their children to adopt Christianity.
Complainants said that the accused had visited their house about five days back adding that he is forcing three other families of the village for religious conversion.
“As the matter came to my knowledge I raised the issue before Jharkhand Police and Latehar police for proper investigation and to lodge an FIR. This is a very serious matter that once again the game of conversion has been started in Jharkhand. The previous BJP government had made the law to stop conversion which needed to be enforced strictly,” said Shahdeo.
