A Bharatiya Janata Party councillor in Deoria has complained to the higher authorities of the party, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, that the local Member of Parliament thrashed him at his residence here on November 19.
The councillor, Ashutosh Tiwari, in his letter on Sunday alleged that the local BJP MP from Deoria, Ramapati Ram Tripathi, and his supporters thrashed him at his residence.
He also alleged that one of the supporters of the MP whipped out a pistol to shoot him during the incident.
However, the MP contradicted the charges.
In the letter, the councillor said that he had proposed to name the auditorium of the Town Hall after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Municipal Board had passed the proposal on December 20, 2019. He said in September 2020, someone put a statue of former MP Mohan Singh there and his name was put on a plaque.
The councillor said he went to meet the local BJP MP to discuss the issue on November 19. “The MP asked me to take back the proposal which I refused. Later, the supporters of the MP thrashed me while the MP himself abused me. A contractor, Girish Singh, even whipped out his pistol and threatened me,” the councillor alleged.
“I was badly beaten up and I saved my life by running away from them,” Ashutosh Tiwari said in his letter.
However, Ramapati Ram Tripathi said the councillor was trying to blackmail him and denied that Tiwari was thrashed inside his residence.
