BJP pursuing political agenda: Akhilesh

Tuesday, 07 April 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

|
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that the ruling party was pursuing its political agenda in the cover of completing 40 years of its foundation even as the whole country was suffering from the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.
“People across the country have closed their ranks in the hour of crisis and are following the  directions of  the government by remaining indoors during the lockdown period while the  BJP has flouted all democratic conventions and is busy celebrating its 40th Foundation Day,” the SP chief said here on Monday.
“The BJP leadership cannot see beyond their nose. The nation is facing the worst ever challenge from the pandemic but the BJP cannot see beyond the next election and is busy in mobilising and influencing the voters through letter of thanks,” the SP chief said, and added, “The letter of thanks should have been issued by the government as the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have no locus standi to issue the letter of thanks to the people,” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the BJP was also cheating the people in providing relief.
“The common people and non-governmental organisations are donating relief material and the same is being distributed by the BJP and the RSS, claiming it as their effort,” the SP chief charged.
He said the people in rural areas were starving   and discrimination was rampant in the distribution of relief material.
Akhilesh charged that the SP workers taking food items and relief material for the poor and hungry people were being stopped at various places in the state. “This is not a healthy tradition in a democracy,” he said.
The SP chief said that owing to the lockdown, people from other states had also come to their villages in large numbers. “Neither these workers have work nor do they have money for food. Their families are not able to have one square meal a day. Many youngsters have lost their jobs,” he pointed out.
Akhilesh Yadav alleged that during the BJP rule, unemployment had grown by leaps and bounds due to demonetisation and goods and services tax (GST). He said the lockdown had further aggravated the situation and the government should immediately make arrangements to make relief or aid reach the farmers, the poor people and the youth.
