BJP ready for Assembly polls, confident of bigger victory than last time

Tuesday, 24 November 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The Bharatiya Janata Party is ready for the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttarakhand. The party will contest the polls on the issue of development as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the historic achievements of the State and Central governments. The BJP State president Banshidhar Bhagat said this while addressing the media at his residence here on Monday.

Bhagat said that the party is confident that in the coming Vidhan Sabha election, it will win more than 57 seats it had won in the last election to once again form the government in Uttarakhand.  The BJP will select its candidates on the basis of performance. He said that though the party’s MLAs are performing well, the party will get a survey conducted about six months before the election. Replying to a query, Bhagat said that a Modi wave is very much active across the nation and its effect was seen in the recent elections in Bihar and other elections. The BJP will definitely benefit from the Modi wave in the Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttarakhand too, he added.

He further informed that the BJP national president JP Nadda will be on an Uttarakhand tour on December 5, 6 and 7. During his tour of the state, Nadda will hold 14 meetings which will include meetings with ministers, MLAs, position holders and other organisational categories. Stating that the BJP national president is starting his national tour with Uttarakhand, Bhagat said that the party workers are enthusiastic about Nadda’s state tour. Bhagat said that after Nadda’s visit, he will undertake a tour of all the Vidhan Sabha constituencies and also spend the night in most of the constituencies.

Regarding former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat’s statement that he would retire from politics after Rahul Gandhi becomes the PM, Bhagat said that Rawat seems to be intent on spending his whole life in politics because Rahul Gandhi will never become the Prime Minister and Rawat will never retire from active politics. Welcoming the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s decision to reinstate the river status for Ganga at Har Ki Paidi in Haridwar, Bhagat said that the mistake made by the then chief minister Harish Rawat would now be rectified.

Regarding the state government’s performance, the BJP State president said that in more than three and a half years in office so far the State government received the full support of the Central government. Due to the chief minister’s will power and vision about 85 per cent of the promises made in the party’s election manifesto have been fulfilled so far while the remaining will be fulfilled in a few months, he added.
