An overzealous Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Morcha leader had to pay a price for firing from a revolver in the air after lighting diyas for nine minutes on the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday night when a case was registered against her in Balrampur.
Besides. the BJP removed her from the organisational post and suspended her from the outfit.
As per reports, after lighting diyas at her home in Balrampur district, Mahila Morcha district chief Manju Tiwari fired in the air from her husband OP Tiwari’s licensed revolver.
The video of the incident was soon uploaded on her Facebook account with the caption ‘Firing to chase away coronavirus after lighting the diyas’. Soon the video went viral on various social media platforms causing embarrassment to the BJP leadership.
Though Manju Tiwari was quick to tender an apology, the Balrampur police, ostensibly under direction from the top, registered a case under relevant sections against the leader and the licence of her husband’s gun could be cancelled.
Her unconditional apology and assurance not to repeat such act in future failed to get her any respite from disciplinary action from the ruling BJP and she was removed from the post of Mahila Morcha district chief and also suspended.
Meanwhile, UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu questioned the BJP government over the incident.
“BJP leaders and workers are violating all norms during lockdown. I also want to know what action will the chief minister take against the party leader, who made a mockery of the prime minister’s call,” he said.
