nAam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled North MCD wants to impose a steep 34 per cent house tax burden on the people of Delhi amid the Covid pandemic under pressure from parking and advertising contractors.
AAP senior leader Durgesh Pathak said the civic body intends to propose hike in house tax by 34 percent and waive off the tax on parking and advertisements.
"North MCD gets crores of rupees as tax from advertising and parking, BJP should use this money for salaries of doctors but they are waiving it," he said.
Pathak said that due to the corrupt nexus between BJP leaders and builder lobby the North MCD wants to waive off this tax.
"People are extremely troubled during the ongoing pandemic. They have lost jobs and lives. People working in hospitals, doctors, nurses who are putting their lives at stake to serve the nation are not being given proper dues for their services. It is their right to get the salary, but the BJP run MCD is unable to do so. On one hand, corruption in BJP and financial mismanagement has led to complete destruction of MCD but on the other hand, to repent for their own misdeeds, BJP is planning to increase the tax levied on Delhi citizens," he said.
The AAP leader further said, "I want to enlighten doctors and nurses protesting in Hindu Rao Hospital, Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, Rajan Babu Hospital, Balak Ram, that the reason behind them not getting salaries is BJP waiving off the crores of revenue they get from contractors."
