Citing mismanagement in quarantine centres and deaths in Chhattisgarh, the BJP has sought online monitoring of all quarantine centres in the state.
BJP state President Vikram Usendi said in a statement that the Congress government has been scoffing at the issues being raised by the BJP over the mismanagement in quarantine centres.
He said that the hands of Panchayats are tied as the state government has not issued funds to run the quarantine centres. People are moving at will due to lack of security while coronavirus guidelines, including those for social distancing, are being floated.
Citing the death of a migrant worker in village Kharhi in Mungeli district on Friday, Usendi said the test report of the youth is awaited. He had returned from Pune.
This is the seventh case of death in quarantine centres in Chhattisgarh, Usendi said.
In another case, a quarantined person using e-pass went to Kolkata and returned with a friend, raising questions from the security point of view.
Meanwhile, the Mungeli district administration said a worker, Punit Tandon, 26, died on Saturday. He had returned on May 10 from Hyderabad to his native village Chitapur.
He was kept in a quarantine centre. On May 22 evening at 7.00 pm, he was given medicine to bring down his fever.
An official statement said that as he was unable to speak, he used sign language to communicate.
At night he was rushed to the Primary Health Centre at Pandarbhatta at 9.00 pm after his health deteriorated. As his condition worsened on Saturday morning, an ambulance was called. Before it could reach, he was taken to the Mungeli district hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
He was declared brought dead. At the district hospital, using RD Kit, he was tested for coronavirus, which was negative. His sample was sent to Medical College Raipur for RT-PCR test. His body has been kept in the CIMS, Bilaspur, mortuary.
