nPolice in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district on Wednesday claimed to have busted an inter-state drug peddling racket and seized from a man brown sugar valued at Rs 1.46 crore.
An automatic pistol and two magazines were seized from the accused, Shankarlal Vaishan of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, police said.
Vaishan was arrested near the river turning on the Raipur-Mahasamund road on a tip off with the contraband (brown sugar),” Mahasamund Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur said.
Police had received information that a man was trying to find buyers for brown sugar and carrying a large amount on a two-wheeler. He was heading toward Mahasamund, the officer said.
Accordingly, a police team nabbed him. An automatic pistol of 7.6 mm, 2 magazines, two live bullets and 730 grams of brown sugar were seized from his possession. The market value of seized brown sugar is Rs 1.46 crore, the police said.
Vaishanv was said to be running an inter-state drug racket with his friends. He used to live at Kansiram Nagar, Telibandha Raipur.
