C'garh farmers to face problems during procurement: Raman Singh

Chhattisgarh's farmers will have a harrowing time during the procurement of paddy under minimum support price from December 1 as arrangements for gunny bags have not been done, former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said on Sunday.

Addressing the media at his residence here, Raman Singh said the government should have entered into an agreement with jute firms in advance for supply of gunny bags before the paddy procurement season begins.

In the present situation, the government had not been serious on arranging the gunny bags for procurement of paddy. Instead, it has commenced blame game, pointing towards the Central government’s failure to supply, the BJP leader said.

Where is the ground level preparation for the state government, he asked.

Similarly, 50 percent of harvesting of state is over. Now farmers are facing a problem of storage with rains which can cause hefty damage to their produce looming large.

Answering a query, Raman Singh said the second-in-command Minister had pledged to quit if the last instalment is not paid before the next paddy procurement season. Till date the last instalment has not been cleared.
