CAIT condemns e-commerce cos for suspending operations

The Chhattisgarh chapter of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday  questioned the role of e-commerce companies operating in the country for suspending their operations when the whole world and India is facing the onslaught of coronavirus pandemic.

CAIT national vice-president Amar Parwani, state working presidents Magelal Malu and Vikram Singhdeo, in a joint statement, said when the whole world and country is going through a crises, the e-commerce companies have suspended their operation when it is most required for the consumers.

The e-commerce companies have failed to fulfill the needs of the nation, they said terming it as the most irresponsible stand and have to be condemned when all the commercial establishments have to play a key role in fighting over the crises by coming forward.

By pulling back their operations at this time of crises is most unfortunate, as it would not generate profits for them, the CAIT said.

The office bearers alleged that for all the year round, these companies operate to eat into the business of small retailers but now they are not seen anywhere when the people need it the most.

Amar Parwani said loval traders have come forward to ensure the availability and distribution of essential items across the country as even after the scare of getting coronavirus infection. “The work has been continued through selfless mode,” he said.

As per the call made by the Prime Minister, the traders have been contributing to avoid any scarcity of foodgrains and other essential items across the country.

Out of the 1.25 crore traders due to different kinds of lockdown restrictions only 25% are working on the supply, Parwani said.

He  further said that with continuing lockdown in the last 20 days in the country, the retail sector losses per day is around ?15000 crore as around 7 crore traders have been affected in the country.

Parwani said the CAIT has written a letter seeking special economic package to the 7 crore retailers across the country to provide relief during this period.
