Intensifying its demand for an early roll out of e-commerce policy in India, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in a letter sent to him to ensure the formation of a regulatory authority and putting an end to the long ongoing malpractices of deep discounting and predatory pricing, controlling inventory and making it mandatory to mention Country of Origin and contents of value addition on each product to be sold on e-commerce platforms.
CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said that these e-commerce portals have become a dumping ground for cheap Chinese imports without any substantive value addition. “Mandatory mentioning of Country of Origin & contents of value addition will inform the consumers about the fundamental details of each product as also the consumer will have a choice to select products,” he said.
“The current COVID pandemic has comprehensively increased usage of digital platforms. It is expected that during forthcoming festive season from Navratri to Diwali, the usage of e-commerce will touch a new height as people gripped with fear of Corona will surely moved to digital portals and as such, it has become more important to make e-commerce policy a comprehensive guideline document which should encourage a fair competition in the market to enable the consumers to get their goods at their doorstep,” he added.
