A vehicle owner of Bhubaneswar, who had been issued a wrong challan by the Cuttack Regional Transport Office, was allegedly threatened and heckled by the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) when he informed him about it on Thursday.
According to Pitabsh Nayak, his car ODO2AJ 3155 had been parked at his home when the traffic violation notice of October 27 was issued.Nayak had received an e-challan from the Cuttack RTO asking him to pay Rs 2,000 as fine for a traffic rule violation at 10.56 am on October 27. When he went to the Cuttack RTO office to inquire about the matter and showed his vehicle’s photo to the RTO staffs, they admitted that it was a mistake and told him the challan would be cancelled. But when he wanted to meet the RTO personally regarding the matter, the staffs allegedly misbehaved with him. The RTO also threatened to send him to jail, alleged Nayak. He questioned how can two vehicles have the same registration number. His car is a commercial vehicle while the challan was issued for a non-commercial vehicle.
“If someone commits a crime with the vehicle with the same registration number, I would land in trouble. I suspect that the other vehicle is a stolen one or there is some fraud,” he said.
