Chandigarh reports one death, 347 fresh Covid-19 cases

The Union Territory of Chandigarh on Tuesday reported one Covid-19 fatality and 347 fresh positive cases. With this, the Covid-19 toll reached 96 while the total case tally stood at 8592 in the city.

“There were 2991 active cases in Chandigarh while 5502 have so far recovered from the deadly virus,” according to the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin. A day before, the positive cases in Chandigarh had crossed 8000-mark. The city had on September 13 reported its biggest single-day spike with 449 fresh cases.

Giving details of the Covid-19 fatality, the bulletin stated, “A 45 years old male resident of Burail, was brought dead at GMCH-32 on September 9. He was tested Covid positive post death as per the information received on Tuesday.”  a total of 202 patients have been discharged including persons from home isolation in the past 24 hours, the bulletin stated.

As far as Covid-19 parameters are concerned, Chandigarh on Tuesday reported 64 percent recovery rate against the national average of around 77 percent. A daily test positivity rate (TPR) of 13 percent and a cumulative positive rate was 15.8 percent. “2653 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 54371 samples have been tested so far in the city. Report of 159 was awaited, the bulletin added.

Manimajra, which is Covid-19 hotspot in Chandigarh reported the highest number of 31 fresh cases in the past 24 hours. Sector 20 which is among the worst affected sectors in the city has reported 20 fresh cases, as per the health bulletin.  16 fresh cases were reported in Sector 15, 14 positive cases each were reported in Mauli Jagran and Sector 37, 12 cases in Sector 19, nine cases each in Dhanas, Sector 46, Sector 42, Sector 26 and Sector 21 and eight cases each were reported in Sector 49 and 32, the bulletin stated.  

According to the bulletin, the new cases were reported from Sectors 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 63, Sector 38 west, Bapu Dham colony in Sector 26,  Burail, Daria, Dadumajra, Dhanas, Hallomajra, Industrial Area Phase I, Kaimbwala, Kajheri, Kishangarh, Manimajra, Khuda Lahora, Mauli Jagran, PGIMER campus, Raipur Khurd, Ram Darbar and Sarangpur.
